Introduction to Terwin Seeds

Terwin Seeds has been formed with a partnership of husband & wife, Terry & Win Rayner.

Terry has worked in the seed trade since 1969. Firstly working for an agricultural seed company, starting at the bottom & gradually moving up the ladder, from being an 'odd job ', to being in charge of production.

Alas , with the farming industry in decline, He was made redundant in1998.Moving onTerry worked for a while as a seed packer for a local company near Newmarket, after a while he was offered a foreman's position with another local company on the Suffolk / Essex border, suppling packet seeds companies. 

Forming His own company has been in his mind for many years, but has just recently plucked up courage to have a go.

Win, his wife of nearly 30 years has worked in the past for a local supermarket as a cashier, but is now part-time cashier for a Fashion Store in Bury St. Edmunds. She is in charge of the books & day to day running  the office side.

Hence the name Terwins Seeds, 'Terry& Winnie'.

All seeds are 'hand packed', supplied in bulk from wholesalers around the country.

A DEFRA packers licence was applied for in August 2003, and approved,after meeting statuary requirements, e.g. Knowing the E.C. Rules& Regulations,and having a DEFRA licence to officially sample seeds, which Terry has.

It was decided to start with Vegetable seed, as vegetable growing has been Terry's hobby ever since school days, but due demand went in Herbs & flowers in the second year of business.

Some of the easy seeds to grow are obviously cress, radish, etc., The more difficult ones such as parsnips which have a very slow germination period,& peppers which can be a little temperamental. Most vegetables, herbs or flowers can be grown with little  experience & patience.

Terwin Seeds are based twixt Bury St Edmunds & Sudbury, dealing through Mail Order & a country market at Stowmarket as well as a Sunday market at Beccles.
